THE SEA AND THE WAVES ROARING

Irma’s trail of destruction in Florida Keys revealed

September 11, 2017 – Fox News reports: “After Hurricane Irma ravaged the string of islands known as the Florida Keys, officials are now warning tourists and residents to stay away until further notice, noting: “The Keys are not open for business.”

Houses and mobile homes were uprooted and other infrastructure was destroyed, while an innumerable amount of boats in the Keys also suffered damage from Irma’s powerful winds.

In a tweet Monday morning, a WFOR reporter said “it’s hard to describe” the lower Florida Keys, but it could be best described as a “war zone.”

“For most of the Florida Keys, there is no fuel, electricity, running water, or cell service,” Monroe County officials said in a news release.  (Jesus said: “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;  Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh– “ Luke 21:25 – 28.   See the next four reports.)

Harvey is a 1,000-year flood event unprecedented in scale

August 31, 2017 – The Washington Post reports: “As Harvey’s rains unfolded, the intensity and scope of the disaster were so enormous that weather forecasters, first responders, the victims, everyone really, couldn’t believe their eyes. Now the data are bearing out what everyone suspected: This flood event is on an entirely different scale than what we’ve seen before in the United States.

A new analysis from the University of Wisconsin’s Space Science and Engineering Center has determined that Harvey is a 1-in-1,000-year flood event that has overwhelmed an enormous section of Southeast Texas equivalent in size to New Jersey.

There is nothing in the historical record that rivals this, according to Shane Hubbard, the Wisconsin researcher who made and mapped this calculation. ‘In looking at many of these events [in the United States], I’ve never seen anything of this magnitude or size,’ he said. ‘This is something that hasn’t happened in our modern era of observations.’…”

September 3, 2017 — ChristianToday.com reports: “While Americans are rightly concerned about flooding in and around Houston, more than 1,000 people have died in the West African country of Sierra Leone, Christian Aid reports today.

The charity is appealing for funds to help the stricken survivors after torrential rains set off floods and mudslides in Freetown on 14 August. This was followed by a massive fire.

One ministry has set up a cooking and distribution site to feed destitute victims who have lost everything in the ongoing crisis, but it urgently needs to do more.

‘After the landslide, we went in to console relatives left behind,’ said Rev Claudius Deah, head of Mission Bethel Ministries International in Monrovia, Liberia. ‘We started feeding people and conducting trauma counseling, and our members in West Africa collected clothing for distribution.’…”

Mexico earthquake of magnitude 8.2 strikes off Pacific coast

September 8, 2017 — BBC News reports: “An earthquake described by Mexico’s president as the country’s strongest in a century has struck off the southern coast, killing at least six people.

One person also died in neighbouring Guatemala, its president has said.

Oklahoma Shakes After Being Hit With 7 Earthquakes In Just 28 Hours

August 7, 2017Forbes reports: “In just 28 hours central Oklahoma was shaken by seven sequential earthquakes, ranging in magnitude from 2 to 5. The earthquakes began this past Tuesday night when five earthquakes repeatedly struck Oklahoma, followed by two more in the early hours of Thursday.

There was no significant damage and no significant injuries reported with the string of earthquakes. However, the earthquakes were widely felt in Edmond, Oklahoma, and parts of Oklahoma City. Two power sub stations were intermittently down as a result of the earthquakes, causing 4,600 residents of northeast Edmond to lose power.

These earthquakes were a result of induced seismicity. Induced seismicity refers to earthquakes that are triggered due to human activity. Since 2009, the USGS has noted a significant rise in induced seismicity associated with wastewater injection during oil and gas development. Oklahoma is one of the most affected regions in the United States for induced seismicity and is thus a focus for research and monitoring by the USGS.
