Breitbart.com reports: “A senior Iranian cleric, Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, dismissed the Nazi Holocaust of Jews during World War II as a new ‘superstition’ for the West, media reported.

‘The Holocaust is nothing but superstition, but Zionists say that people of the world should be forced to accept this,’ he was quoted as saying by the state news agency IRNA.

‘Americans and Westerners are affected by newly appeared superstitions such as the Holocaust,’ he said according to IRNA news agency.

‘The truth about the Holocaust is not clear, and when the researchers want to examine whether it is true or the Jews have created it to pose as victims, they jail the researchers,’ said Makarem Shirazi, who is a ‘marja,’ or among the highest authorities in Shiite Islam.

Iran’s hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly branded the Holocaust a ‘myth’ in his frequent anti-Israel diatribes drawing international condemnation, but Iran’s prominent clergy have rarely echoed such comments.

Several opposition figures have also rebuked Ahmadinejad over questioning the Holocaust while backing the Palestinian cause.

Israel National News reports: “A group of American Muslim leaders made a first-of-its-kind visit to Nazi concentration camps, prompting tears from at least one of them.

Eight imams made a three-day trip Dachau and Auschwitz, co-sponsored by a German think tank and the New Jersey-based Center for Interreligious Understanding, and strongly supported by the United States government.

The trip, as reported in the Jewish Forward, was the brainchild of law professor Marshall Breger, an Orthodox Jew and former senior official in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Breger said, ‘There is a view that there is growing anti-Semitism in the Muslim world, reinforced by people like President [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad, that there is growing Holocaust denial in the Muslim world. In light of that, the idea was to offer education to those who might not have the kind of knowledge that we’ve had about World War II and the Jewish community, and to do this in a public way.’

The imams prayed at Dachau, with a concluding prayer by Muzammil Siddiqi, imam of the Islamic Society of Orange County, California: ‘We pray to G-d that this will not happen to the Jewish people or to any people anymore.’

Suhaib Webb, an imam from Santa Clara in the Bay Area, grew up in a white Christian household in Oklahoma and later converted to Islam. Walking around Auschwitz with tears in his eyes, he said, ‘It was far worse than I imagined.’

‘No Muslim in his right mind, female or male, should deny the Holocaust,’ said Mohamed Magid, imam and executive director of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society. ‘When you walk the walk of the people who have been taken to be gassed, to be killed, how can a person deny physical evidence, something that’s beyond doubt?’

BBC News reports: “Fidel Castro has criticised Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for what he called his anti-Semitic attitudes.

The former Cuban leader also warned that an escalating conflict between Iran and the West could lead to nuclear war.

Mr. Castro, speaking to a US journalist, also questioned his own actions during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Asked if he stood by his recommendation for the Soviets to bomb America, he said ‘it wasn’t worth it at all’.

Mr. Castro was speaking to Jeffrey Goldberg, a journalist with The Atlantic magazine based in Washington, DC, whom he personally invited to Cuba.

Mr. Castro led Cuba for almost 50 years after toppling the government in a revolution. He fell ill in 2006 and handed power to his brother Raul in 2008. Since then, his public appearances have been rare, but in recent months he has made a series of public speeches and televised appearances.

Mr. Castro’s ‘body may be frail, but his mind is acute, his energy level is high’, wrote Goldberg on his blog on The Atlantic website.

Over the course of a five-hour discussion, Mr. Castro ‘repeatedly returned to his excoriation of anti-Semitism’, and criticised Mr. Ahmadinejad for denying the Holocaust.

‘The Jews have lived an existence that is much harder than ours. There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust,’ the former president said.
