US Military Intercepts Russian Military Aircraft Near Alaska for Second Time in a Week

May 18, 2023 — Voice of America News reports: “The U.S. military has confirmed another Russian military aircraft was tracked while operating near the U.S. state of Alaska on Monday, the second such incident in less than a week.

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said that it had ‘detected and tracked’ one Russian military aircraft while it was operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter U.S. or Canadian sovereign airspace, according to a NORAD press release.

Speaking to VOA on Wednesday, a NORAD official declined to identify the type of Russian military aircraft, adding that U.S. fighter jets did not fly out and intercept the aircraft in this instance.

The flight occurred as several planned large-scale military training exercises are underway in and around Alaska…”  (Russia is warming up for Armageddon. Palestinians prefer Russia, China to mediate with Israel, don’t trust US

May 15, 2023 — YnetNews.com reports: “A new survey published on Monday showed that Palestinians prefer Russia and China as potential peace mediators with Israel, while the U.S. is seen as the least favorable option.

The majority of respondents to the survey, conducted this month by YouGov at the request of Arab News, said that they would like Moscow to be a potential peace broker. In the meantime, 80% pointed to China – which has strengthened its position in the region after mediating the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement in March.

Later in April, Beijing offered to facilitate peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians amid tensions in Jerusalem during the holy month of Ramadan. The third possible option, according to the survey, is the European Union.

Meanwhile, nearly 60% of respondents said they did not trust the U.S. to mediate negotiations, with 86% claiming that Washington has significant influence over Jerusalem…”

‘Russian-Iranian Axis’ Threatens American Empire – Top DC Think Tank

The US must do something to counter a ‘growing Iran-Russia axis’ before it wreaks havoc on and further ‘undermines American interests in Europe, Eurasia, and the Middle East,’ a pair of scholars from the Heritage Foundation – a leading Washington, DC-based think tank, have warned.

US Says Iran, Russia Are Expanding Military Ties

May 16, 2023 — Voice of America News reports: “The United States said Monday there are signs that Russia and Iran are expanding their military cooperation.

State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters that Iran ‘remains Russia’s top military backer, and Iran has already provided Russia with artillery and tank rounds for use in Ukraine.’

Patel said that since August, ‘Iran has provided Russia with more than 400 UAVs, primarily of the Shahed variety, and Russia has expended most of these UAVs using them to target Ukrainian critical infrastructure inside Ukraine.’

‘The deepening of this cooperation is a threat and a danger to not just Ukraine; it’s a threat and a danger to Russia’s neighbors, Iran’s neighbors, and the international community broadly,’ Patel told reporters…”

China’s premier hails close ties in talks with Russian PM

May 24, 2023 — SpaceWar.com reports: “China’s premier on Wednesday hailed the ‘strategic cooperative partnership’ between Beijing and Moscow as he hosted the Russian prime minister, with the two sides expected to sign a number of economic and infrastructure deals.

The two nations have in recent years ramped up economic and diplomatic cooperation, and have grown closer since Russia invaded Ukraine despite China’s insistence that it is neutral in that conflict.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived in China on Monday, attending a business forum in Shanghai on Tuesday before travelling to Beijing to meet Premier Li Qiang and President Xi Jinping.

China nuke arsenal build-up ‘concern for global stability’: G7

May 22, 2023 — SpaceWar.com reports: “China’s rapidly growing nuclear arsenal is a ‘concern to global and regional stability’, Group of Seven leaders said Friday after talks on nuclear disarmament in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

The SIPRI think tank estimates that China has a stockpile of around 350 nuclear warheads — a small sum when compared with the United States and Russia.

But it is growing fast, and the country could have 1,500 warheads by 2035, according to a Pentagon estimate published in November.

Concerns about the build-up have been growing in the West, and the G7 leaders warned that expansion ‘without transparency nor meaningful dialogue poses a concern to global and regional stability’.

Since its first nuclear test in 1964, China has been content to maintain a comparatively modest arsenal and has maintained that it will never be the first to use nuclear weapons in a conflict.

China: Simulated War Games Sink U.S. Carrier Group with Hypersonic Missiles

Ford carrier fleet by evading the ships’ defense systems, the South China Morning Post reported on Tuesday.

The war games add to mounting anxiety in the United States about communist China’s hypersonic capabilities, exacerbated by an alleged 2021 missile test that an American intelligence source admitted Washington had ‘no idea how’ Beijing pulled off without detection. More recently, the trove of alleged Defense Department documents surfacing on the video game chat platform Discord included an alleged top-secret Pentagon report describing a Chinese hypersonic missile that had ‘a high probability of penetrating’ American ballistic missile defenses. The missile in question, according to the alleged leak, could potentially bomb Guam…”

France insists on China’s role for peace in Ukraine

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang is visiting Germany, France and Norway this week, and met his French counterpart Catherine Colonna in Paris on Wednesday.

‘We know the importance of China’s role on the world stage and the importance of the role it can play for global peace and stability,’ Colonna told Qin at the start of their meeting.

China should work ‘to convince Russia to return to fully respecting’ the UN Charter, she added, before a scheduled dinner with Qin at the French foreign ministry.

Colonna had earlier told a cabinet meeting that Beijing should urge Russia to ‘return to peace’, according to a post-cabinet press briefing.

‘It is necessary for China to use its relations with Russia to make Russia understand better that it is at an impasse, and to tell Russia to come back to its senses,’ she said.
