Libya’s lurch toward Shariah sends chill through Christian community

January 7, 2014 — FoxNews.com reports: “Libya’s recent edict that its coming constitution will be based on Shariah law has sent a chill through the North African nation’s small Christian community.

Libya’s Coptic Christians, who number about 300,000, or 5 percent of the population, were allowed to practice their faith under dictator Muammar Qaddafi. But since the strongman was ousted from power, and ultimately killed, Muslim fundamentalists have increasingly filled the power void. Last month, the national assembly voted in favor of making Koranic law, or Shariah, the basis of all legislative decisions, meaning Islam will shape all future banking, criminal and financial cases.

‘Islamic law is the source of legislation in Libya,’ stated the General National Congress in a statement released shortly after the vote was held. ‘All state institutions need to comply with this.’…” (10 reasons why sharia is bad for all societies: 1. Islam commands that highway robbers should be crucified or mutilated. 7. Islam commands that a male and female thief must have a hand cut off. 8. Islam allows an injured plaintiff to exact legal revenge, physical eye for physical eye. 9. Islam allows husbands to beat their wives. 10. Islam commands that drinkers and gamblers be beaten. Al Qaeda Opens Syrian Jihad School

December 31, 2013 — Israel National News reports: “Jabhat Al Nusra, an Islamist group affiliated with Al Qaeda, maintains an infrastructure of governance as one of the central opposition forces. Aside from managing religious courts based on Islamic sharia law, the group has opened new schooling programs emphasizing Islam and jihad.

In the southern Syrian town of Daraa, a school established by the organization teaches roughly 30 students ranging in age from 10 to 15 to believe in Allah, follow Islam, and aspire to jihad holy war.
Video footage from the school shows students learning by rote passages from the Koran, reading ‘our path is the path of jihad.’

The use of child soldiers by rebel forces, including the more ‘moderate’ Free Syrian Army (FSA), has been documented, and shows how the lessons learned in the school may quickly be turned into action.
On the walls of the classroom hang posters featuring verses from the Koran, including one praising jihadist ‘martyrs,’ explaining that they aren’t ‘dead’ but rather ‘living’ with Allah…”

Al-Qaeda faction committing appalling atrocities in Syria to enforce Islamic law

December 19, 2013 — The National Post reports: “An Al-Qaeda faction in Syria is committing appalling atrocities in areas under its control, Amnesty International said in a report Wednesday that urged the group to end its ‘reign of abuse.’

Amnesty called on Turkey and the Gulf States to cut off the supply of arms and money to the hardline group, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), which holds key parts of northern Syria.
As it has captured territory, the ISIS has brutally imposed its militant version of Islamic law on Syrians — abducting, torturing and killing locals for everything from drinking alcohol to opposing Islamist rule…

Former ISIS detainees told Amnesty they had witnessed ‘a shocking catalogue of abuses’ including the flogging of children, electric shock torture, public executions and phony trials conducted by Sharia judges appointed by the faction…”

Syria: 25 Lashes for Failing to Pray

January 5, 2014 — Israel National News reports: “Syria is undergoing an accelerated process of Islamization, which is led by extremist Islamist rebel groups that follow sharia courts, and who operate a morality police force that enforces law and order Islam-style.

In Haleb, two men were convicted of failing to take part in the Friday prayers, and were sentenced to 25 lashes each, to be delivered publicly.

The two convicted men were brought to the city square, where they were flogged on their bare backs. The crowd that had gathered watched the scene quietly…”
