Russia and China show united front at economic forum

June 10, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “Chinese President Xi Jinping appears Friday as guest of honour at Russia’s showcase economic forum, as the two neighbours present a united front in the face of shared troubles with the US.

Xi arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for a three-day visit with Vladimir Putin and described the Russian leader as his ‘best friend’ during a cosy meeting at the Kremlin.

To end the trip, Xi and his host will appear at a plenary session of the annual Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, which Moscow hopes will woo foreign investors despite an uncertain business climate.

Xi is set to present China’s ideas on sustainable development and multilateral cooperation, Beijing said ahead of his appearance.

The 2019 forum ‘will illustrate very clearly just how bi-polar the world has become,’ said Chris Weafer, a senior partner at the Macro Advisory consulting firm.

Xi Jinping in Russia to usher ‘new era’ of friendship

June 5, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “Chinese President Xi Jinping headed for Russia Wednesday to mark a new era of friendship and reinforce economic ties that had benefitted from Moscow’s isolation from the West.

Due to arrive in the early afternoon, Xi will be received with full honours.

He will have talks in the Kremlin with President Vladimir Putin before attending a formal reception and in the evening he will attend a night out at the Bolshoi theatre.

The visit comes five years after Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 led to a serious rift with its Western partners and subsequent turn toward its neighbour to the east.

From Moscow, Xi will travel to Russia’s former imperial capital Saint Petersburg to attend the Economic Forum hosted by Putin on Thursday and Friday.

China and Russia ‘have strong political mutual trust and support each other firmly on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns,’ Xi said during an interview with Russian media ahead of the visit, according to a transcript released by Beijing’s official Xinhua news agency…”  (Vladimir Putin has been in power as either the Prime Minister or President of Russia since 1999.  Constitutionally, he will be required to step down from power in 2024, however, he could do what he did in 2008 and groom a successor like Dmitri Medvedev, whom he controlled, and seek to become president again in 2030.  In essence, setting himself up as ruler for life in Russia, much as Xi Jinping is set to be ruler for life in China.  Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 predict the union of Russia and China [Revelation 16:12; Daniel 11:44] as leaders in the battle for the greatest war in history called Armageddon – Revelation 16:16.  Revelation 9:14 – 18 pictures its upcoming disastrous results.  See the next three reports.)

Russia, China, block U.S. effort to halt N. Korea fuel deliveries

June 20, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “Russia and China on Tuesday blocked an American initiative that aimed to halt fuel deliveries to North Korea, which Washington accuses of exceeding its annual ceiling for 2019, diplomatic sources said.

Moscow and Beijing said more time was needed to study the US request, which was backed by 25 UN members including Japan, France and Germany, according to the sources.

A week ago, the United States, in a report, accused North Korea of breaching the United Nations-imposed ceiling on fuel imports by carrying out dozens of ship-to-ship transfers this year.

The cap on fuel imports is among a series of tough sanctions adopted by the UN Security Council in response to North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

The United States insists that ‘maximum pressure’ from the sanctions must remain on North Korea until it agrees to dismantle its weapons program…”

Russia warns U.S. over extra troop deployment to Mideast

June 20, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “Russia on Tuesday called for restraint to avoid escalation in the Middle East after the US said it was deploying additional troops due to heightened tensions with Iran.

‘We are urging all the sides to show restraint,’ President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists in response to a question on the deployment.

‘We would prefer not to see any steps that could introduce additional tensions in the already unstable region.’

The United States said Monday it has approved the deployment of 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East…”

China warns U.S. against opening Mideast ‘Pandora’s box’

June 18, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “China on Tuesday warned against opening a ‘Pandora’s box’ in the Middle East after the United States announced the deployment of 1,000 additional troops to the region amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi also urged Tehran to not abandon the nuclear agreement ‘so easily’ after Iran said it would exceed its uranium stockpile limit if world powers fail to fulfil their commitments under the agreement in 10 days.

The United States ratcheted up pressure on Iran Monday, announcing the deployment of additional troops to the Middle East and producing new photographs it said showed Tehran was behind an attack on a tanker ship in the Gulf of Oman last week.

‘We call on all parties to remain rational and restrained, not to take any actions to provoke the escalation of tension in the region, and not to open a Pandora’s box,’ Wang told reporters in Beijing during a joint press conference with visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem.

‘In particular, the United States should change its practice of extreme pressure,’ Wang said…”

China will double its nuclear warheads in next 10 years, DIA chief says

June 2, 2019 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “China will double its stockpile of nuclear weapons in the next decade, the chief of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency said.

Speaking to the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C., Lt. Gen. Robert Ashley added that assessments indicate Russia violated a 1996 treaty banning nuclear detonation tests that could cause a self-sustaining chain reaction.

‘Over the next decade, China is likely to at least double the size of its nuclear stockpile in the course of implementing the most rapid expansion and diversification of its nuclear arsenal in China’s history,’ Ashley said on Wednesday. ‘Last year, China launched more ballistic missiles for testing and training than the rest of the world combined.’

‘We expect this modernization to continue and this trajectory is consistent with Chinese President Xi’s vision for China’s military, which he laid out at the 19th Party Congress and stated that China’s military will be ‘fully transformed into a first tier force’ by 2050,’ Ashley said.
