U.S. Eyes Islamic State Threat

August 27, 2014 — Voice of America News reports: “As the U.S. begins surveillance flights over Syria to track Sunni extremists who claim responsibility for beheading American journalist James Foley, there are mixed messages coming out of Washington over whether the Islamic State (IS) could attack U.S. soil.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called IS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), an ‘imminent threat.’ Republican Senator Lindsey Graham warned that the group is willing and able to ‘hit the homeland.’ But are these threats overstated? And what should be done to thwart them?

‘Increasingly, I have seen stronger relations between the al-Qaida affiliate al- Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) with ISIS,’ said Max Abrahms , assistant professor of public policy and terrorist expert at Northeastern University.

AQAP may be a smaller group, he says, but they are much better at making bombs.

‘AQAP have tried to bomb us numerous times, so the biggest fear, I think, is that ISIS is going to be influenced by a group like AQAP and then strike the West,’ he said.

Texas facing ‘clear and present threat’ from ISIS

September 5, 2014 — WND.com reports: “The Washington watchdog organization that earlier reported the presence of ISIS factions in Mexico, just across the border from Texas, now says there appears to be a ‘clear and present threat’ to the state, because of the increased security efforts being implemented at a key military installation.

In a report Thursday, Judicial Watch said its military sources believe that the increase in security ‘indicates that [the Army post] is a target.’

‘It’s a significant issue when this is done,’ retired Army Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin said of the higher security measures at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas – which is just across the border from Juarez, Mexico.

‘That means they’re getting a threat stream. Fort Bliss had to have a clear and present threat,’ said the former Delta Force commander who also spent four years as Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence…”

Expert: ‘Imminent’ ISIS threat to U.S. power grid

August 31, 2014 — WND.com reports: “ISIS terrorists pose an ‘imminent’ threat to the U.S. electric grid with the capacity to coordinate a devastating assault on our nation’s infrastructure, warned a leading homeland security and terrorism expert in a radio interview Sunday.

Dr. Peter Pry, a former CIA officer, is executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, both congressional advisory boards. He also served on the Congressional EMP Commission, the Congressional Strategic Posture Commission, and the House Armed Services Committee.

‘There is an imminent threat from ISIS to the national electric grid and not just to a single U.S. city,’ said Pry.

Pry was speaking on ‘Aaron Klein Investigative Radio’ on New York’s AM 970 The Answer.

Outlining the threat, Pry recalled a leaked U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission report divulged this past March that coordinated terrorist attacks on just nine of the nation’s 55,000 electrical power substations could provoke coast-to-coast blackouts for up to 18 months.

Such an attack would mirror the devastating impact of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack without the need for any nuclear device or delivery system…”

Canadian Report Reveals Jihadists are Returning

September 2, 2014 — Israel National News reports: “The Canadian Ministry of Public Safety last Friday released its 2014 Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada, in which it detailed the troubling phenomenon of Canadians traveling to the Middle East to join in jihad – and later return to potentially conduct attacks.

‘As of early 2014, the Government was aware of more than 130 individuals with Canadian connections who were abroad and who were suspected of terrorism-related activities,’ noted the report.

The activities of those Canadians included ‘training, fundraising, promoting radical views and even planning terrorist violence.’

While some of the terrorist Canadians remained abroad or died in battle, the report added that ‘about 80 individuals…have returned to Canada after travel abroad for a variety of suspected terrorism-related purposes.’

Many of the returning jihadists had ‘engaged in paramilitary activities. Others may have studied in extremist schools, raised money or otherwise supported terrorist groups.’

Syria has been a major pull for foreign jihadists, with the report noting some estimates put the number of foreigners fighting in Syria at over 6,000 people.

The Canadian government added it is aware of at least 30 Canadians taking part in the Syrian jihad, and ‘a number’ of Canadian connected individuals in the countries around Syria ‘who have expressed their intention to travel to the conflict zone to engage in terrorism-related activities.’…” (Canada is only one of fifty nations where turncoats [Benedict Arnolds] have turned against their homeland to join the most barbaric and monstrous organization in history, a cult of murderers. Islamic State recruiting in Canada, local imam warns

August 24, 2014 — The Telegraph.co.uk reports: “A Canadian imam known for his pacifist sermons has warned that Islamist militant group IS was actively recruiting in Canada and said one member issued him a death threat.

Syed Soharwardy, founder of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC), called on Canadian and Western authorities to intensify the fight against jihadist movements.

‘Absolutely I am convinced that this recruitment is going on right here in this country, under our noses, in our universities, in our colleges, in the places of worship, in our community,’ he told CBC public television.

Soharwardy added that a Muslim man from Ottawa who was fighting with IS in Mosul in northern Iraq had sent him a death threat on Facebook.

‘He was condemning me for condemning ISIS, and he was saying that ‘You are a deviant imam and your version of Islam is not the right version,’‘ Soharwardy said, using another acronym by which IS is known.

The Calgary-based imam said such threats were nothing new.

‘I get death threats from everybody,’ he said, adding that ‘just last month I had a death threat posted on a website.’

In February, intelligence services said at least 130 Canadians were fighting with IS in Iraq and Syria.

‘Three Calgarian young fellows died in Iraq and Syria fighting for ISIS. One of them was very known to me,’ he said.

‘These people are brainwashing people here in this country,’ he added…”

British Islamic State Terrorist Threatens to ‘Come Home’

August 29, 2014 — Israel National News reports: “The fears of homegrown Islamic extremism striking the streets of England were heightened recently by the gruesome video of the beheading of James Foley, a US journalist murdered by a British Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorist in Syria.

That British IS jihadist is far from alone in the ranks of the extremist group that has conquered large portions of Iraq and Syria, declaring itself early last month as a caliphate. According to the UK’s Home Office, 500 people associated with Britain have joined IS, and roughly half have returned to the UK.

Khalid Mahmood, a British MP based in Birmingham, estimates that in total at least 1,500 young British Muslims have been recruited by extremists fighting in Iraq and Syria in the last three years.

Two British IS fighters currently in Syria, Abu Bakr and Abu Anwar, were interviewed via a video feed by CNN as reported on Thursday, and revealed that the video of Foley’s horrific murder is acting as a recruitment video.

Abu Anwar said he would be ‘more than honored’ to conduct a beheading like that of Foley, adding ‘I hope that Allah gives me a chance to do to James Foley to another enemy. My hands are ready to commit to this blessed act.’…”

‘Act now or face terror on Britain’s streets’

August 17, 2014 — The London Daily Telegraph reports: “The West is embroiled in a generational struggle against a poisonous brand of Islamic extremism that will bring terror to the streets of Britain unless urgent action is taken to defeat it, David Cameron warns today.

Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, the Prime Minister says the world cannot turn a blind eye to the creation of an extremist caliphate in the heart of Iraq.

Warning that Islamic State fighters already control thousands of square miles of territory, Mr. Cameron says that if these ‘warped and barbaric’ extremists are not dealt with now, they will create a ‘terrorist state’ on the shores of the Mediterranean.

He warns that Britain will have to use its ‘military prowess’ to help defeat ‘this exceptionally dangerous’ movement, or else terrorists with ‘murderous intent’ will target people in Britain.

The Prime Minister says he fears the struggle will last ‘the rest of my political lifetime’.

‘The creation of an extremist caliphate in the heart of Iraq and extending into Syria is not a problem miles away from home. Nor is it a problem that should be defined by a war 10 years ago. It is our concern here and now,’ he says.

‘Because if we do not act to stem the onslaught of this exceptionally dangerous terrorist movement, it will only grow stronger until it can target us on the streets of Britain. We already know that it has the murderous intent.’…”

Islamic State Terrorists in Russian Jets: ‘Putin, You’re Next’

September 3, 2014 — Israel National News reports: “Islamic State terrorists fresh from the conquest of the last Syrian military base in the north of the country sent a ‘special message’ to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, as well as his key ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Tabqa airbase was taken after prolonged and intensive fighting which left hundreds of Islamic State and pro-regime forces dead. Its conquest meant that the Islamic State now controls all of Syria’s northern Raqqa Province, as well as much of the northeast of the country.

After finally taking the base, the Islamic State released a video showing the mass execution of some 250 regime fighters, who were first ordered to march through the desert stripped to their underwear. Jihadis also circulated pictures of heavy weaponry and Russian-made MiG fighter jets they had seized.

In a video dated August 31, a group of Arab IS fighters address Assad directly from inside a hangar in the base.

‘You’d better watch out Bashar – we’re coming for you in planes!’ declares one terrorist from atop a captured Russian aircraft. ‘We’ll be coming for you from the skies, with these planes, Allah willing.’

‘Brace yourself for what’s coming, you pig.’

A second, young fighter then addresses Putin, whose military and political support has been crucial in keeping Assad in power.

‘Vladimir Putin, these are the Russian planes that you sent to Bashar. Allah willing, we will take them back to your own turf, and liberate Chechnya and the Caucasus, Allah willing… Your throne is being threatened by us,’ he said…”

German Intel Chief: IS Attack in Europe Just a Matter of Time

August 31, 2014 — Israel National News reports: “Germany’s intelligence head said Sunday that his state, like the UK, France and other western nations, faces a very high danger of citizens returning to conduct terror attacks from Syria and Iraq, where they are fighting in the ranks of the extremist Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).

‘We have to expect that these people will return and commit attacks here,’ acknowledged Hans-Georg Maassen, head of Germany’s BfV domestic intelligence agency. He cited a ‘greater abstract risk’ of attacks in Germany, reports Reuters.

BfV estimates that no fewer than 400 German citizens have joined the bloodthirsty IS as it conquers large swathes of Iraq and Syria; in recent months Maassen said evidence has been received that five German citizens or residents conducted suicide attacks in the region.

That number does not seem likely to go down, as BfV further estimates that roughly 43,000 Islamists currently reside in German, with members of the Salafist movement particularly gaining strength.

‘There is a link between the successes IS has had so far in Iraq and the activities here in Germany and the propaganda and canvassing activities aimed at young jihadists,’ said Maassen.

An example of German propaganda was seen as early as last November, when a German Muslim convert in Syria fighting for ISIS released a video in German calling for his countrymen to join in jihad.

The intel chief added ‘the Islamic State is, so to speak, the ‘in’ thing – much more attractive than the Nusra Front, the Al Qaeda spin-off in Syria.’

‘What attracts people is the intense brutality, the radicalism and rigor. Saudi King Warns West Will Be Jihadists’ Next Target

August 31, 2014 — Breitbart.com reports: “King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has warned that the West will be the next target of the jihadists sweeping through Syria and Iraq, unless there is ‘rapid’ action.

‘If we ignore them, I am sure they will reach Europe in a month and America in another month,’ he said in remarks quoted on Saturday by Asharq al-Awsat daily and Saudi-backed Al-Arabiya television station.

‘Terrorism knows no border and its danger could affect several countries outside the Middle East,’ said the king who was speaking at a welcoming ceremony on Friday for new ambassadors, including a new envoy from Saudi ally the United States.

The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group has prompted widespread concern as it advances in both Syria and Iraq, killing hundreds of people, including in gruesome beheadings and mass executions.

Lack of action would be ‘unacceptable’ in the face of the phenomenon, King Abdullah said.

‘You see how they (jihadists) carry out beheadings and make children show the severed heads in the street,’ he said, condemning the ‘cruelty’ of such acts.

‘It is no secret to you, what they have done and what they have yet to do. I ask you to transmit this message to your leaders: ‘Fight terrorism with force, reason and (necessary) speed’.’…”
